We know that you care about your ink, which is why you have questions. These are some of the most frequently asked questions by our tattoo artists and the artists and collectors who use our products to keep their ink looking fresh.
Product Questions
Hustle Butter is the brand name for a line of products dedicated to helping tattoo collectors and artists keep their ink in pristine condition. Hustle Butter products all address a common need related to tattoos: soothing skin, healing skin, cleaning skin, and preserving or restoring the lustrous glow of new and old ink. The Hustle Butter lines include Deluxe, CBD Balm, Bubbles Deluxe, Luxe, and Helper.
Each product line addresses a specific tattoo need:
- Deluxe – Our original product, you can use Deluxe as a tattooing glide, tattoo aftercare, or as a daily moisturizer.
- CBD Balm – Made with CBD isolate – the purest form of CBD available – Luxe moisturizes, soothes, and conditions the skin. It also alleviates pain and reduces inflammation.
- Bubbles Deluxe – This is an antimicrobial soap that is gentler than green soap or harsh antiseptics.
- Luxe – This is an all-natural, vegan moisturizing cream that can be applied to tattooed and virgin skin.
- Hustle Helper – Hustle Helper contains lidocaine and natural antimicrobial elements so you can keep the tattooed area sanitary and your client comfortable.
Product Use
Hustle Butter Deluxe can be applied with a q-tip or a recently washed fingertip. Dab a small amount on the tattoo in rub it in small circles. All of our products are made from natural ingredients, but if you have an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients, discontinue use.
There is no way for you to “over-nourish” your skin with Hustle Butter products, and they are made to be applied liberally. There’s no need to waste it, though. Use enough to cover the desired area as often as you like. Use a thin layer of Hustle Butter Deluxe to cover your tattoo.
You should begin using Hustle Butter before you begin the tattoo session to pretreat the skin. Afterward, your tattoo care regimen should involve treating your tattoo with Hustle Butter Deluxe.
It depends on how big your tattooed areas are and how often you apply it to them. For most people, a 5 oz. tub of Hustle Butter Deluxe and Hustle Helper will last about three months if you apply them daily.
Tattoo Care
How long does it take a tattoo to heal properly? Like so many other things in life, it varies. The fact of the matter is that tattooing damages the skin — gloriously — but it takes time to heal properly. The visible healing will occur over the next two to three weeks, but the dermis can take as long as six months. That’s why it’s essential that you give the skin the nutrients it requires to rebuild. Hustle Butter Deluxe is an all-natural, vegan product that encourages skin healing. Hustle Bubbles will prevent the raw, chafed surface from developing a skin infection.
Definitely consult your artist about how to care for a tattoo, but in case you forgot the instructions, here are some basics. Tattoo care during the first few days is crucial to avoid infection. Use a natural, moisturizing, antimicrobial soap to keep your tattoo clean. We recommend Hustle Bubbles Deluxe aftercare products because we know the exact ingredients and how they’re sourced. Rinse the product off, dab dry with a paper towel or regular towel, and apply Hustle Butter Deluxe to promote moisturization and healing. You can continue using these products indefinitely to properly maintain your tattoo. Do not apply sunscreen on your tattoo until it's fully healed.
To use Hustle Bubbles products, apply them to the tattooed area, scrub for 30 seconds, rinse, and pat dry. Be gentle with your art, especially with new ink. Apply a thin layer of Hustle Butter Deluxe to the tattooed area to condition the skin.
We recommend washing a new tattoo two or three times per day to eliminate the risk of infection and as part of the healing process. Of course, once the skin is healed, you can wash your tattoo as often as wash the rest of your body.
Tattoo Questions
Tattooing means having a needle perforate the skin repeatedly, which is why there’s some degree of pain involved. Itching is a common sensation as the body performs the natural process of healing those tiny wounds. The itching starts to fade after a week or two.
Tattoo peeling usually occurs within four or five days after the tattoo session. Again, this is caused by the damage to the skin that tattooing requires. The good news is that it’s no worse than a sunburn peel. To help reduce peeling and to keep your tattooed skin healthy, apply Hustle Butter Deluxe to the new ink.
Tattoo fading occurs as the body’s immune system attack the pigments in the dermis. You can help slow this by keeping those skin cells moisturized and healthy. Hustle Butter products help to reduce tattoo fading while promoting healthy skin. Eventually, you may require a tattoo touchup, but incorporating Hustle Butter products in your daily regimen will push that far off into the future.
Avoid wearing tight clothing for the first few days and avoid swimming for a few weeks. Do not apply sun block to a new tattoo. Remove the plastic film protector after 24 hours. Wash the tattoo with a gentle antimicrobial product, like Hustle Bubbles Deluxe, and cover it with a protective coating of Hustle Butter Deluxe. Celebrate your new piece of art and plan your next accomplishment.
The healing phase generally isn’t the best look in the life of the tattoo. The area may be red, puffy, and may eventually peel. It’s all part of the process, and our products will get you through this phase faster.
Aquaphor is probably better for your new tattoo than petroleum jelly, but it’s still a less-than-ideal topical ointment. Aquaphor often contains alcohol, which can dry out the skin. If you didn’t plan your aftercare well, apply an Aquaphor instead of petroleum jelly, but order a tub of Hustle Butter Deluxe ASAP. Hustle Butter Deluxe is designed by tattoo artists specifically for tattoo care. All of the ingredients are natural and contain the nutrients that your skin needs to heal from the controlled trauma tattooing causes.
Neosporin has many good uses, but applying it to a tattoo is not one of them. Neosporin does promote healing but does not allow your skin to breathe, which is counterproductive.
As is the case with Neosporin, petroleum-based products prevent the skin from breathing. While it’s useful for moisturizing extremely dry skin, it’s not something you should ever use on tattoos. Hustle Butter was developed as a healthy, intelligent alternative to products like Neosporin, Vaseline, and Aquaphor. If you’re planning on getting a tattoo, order a tub of Hustle Butter first. If you already have one and you don’t have our products, order yours today.
